  • A Maryville Public Works crew blocked off East First Street Monday at the Davis Street intersection in order to excavate a badly leaking water main valve.

Both Public Works Director C.E. Goodall and Water/Sewer Maintenance Superintendent Eric Lance were on the scene Monday afternoon in order to evaluate the problem first-hand.

Goodall said the leak was too big a problem to fix in one day, and that the deep, square hole excavated in order to reach the valve would be temporarily filled and covered with steel plating until permanent repairs could be made.

Replacing the valve, he said, will require cutting off water service in the area. However the scope and duration of the interruption were not immediately determined.
