Geekology 101: To 3D or not to 3D

So I?am a little behind the times here when it comes to expressing my opinion on the 3D?phenomenon that is going on with movies nowadays.

What I don’t understand is why is this process taking a hold of the movie industry so much that itis  starting to work its way into our homes as well.

I mean, has anyone really liked the 3D technology so much that they would give up watching standard television in the future??

I know I?wouldn’t. Actually the whole process would give me a headache that wouldn’t quit.

Sometimes, as I?am watching a film in 3D, and that isn’t very often, there is so much going on that I get lost while trying to compute it all visually.

Take for example the movie Thor. When I saw it in 3D, there was an opening battle sequence that was beautiful but quickly developed into a muddled mess as my eyes and my brain couldn’t keep up.

A few weeks later, I saw it again in 2D and the scene made more sense to me and I?took more enjoyment out of it.

That asisde, this phenomenon isn’t going to go away. So how does that make you feel?

For me, I?think that it might be a good thing as long as it doesn’t get out of hand. Plus I like that some theaters offer the option of both a 3D?and 2D option.

Though that gets to be a bit of a weird experience when you sit through a film and point out all of the elements that you know the filmmakers were using to take advantage of the 3D effect.

So what about the 3D effect makes a movie more desirable??That is what I would like to know.

I mean I live in a 3D world do I need it on the big screen as well??

The movie theater is where I go to escape real life, why do I need to experience it there to?

I think the biggest draw of a movie in 3D is the fact that you know this is how the filmmaker wanted you to experience it.

Like when a director sits down and directs a film that he wants in 3D, he visualizes it that way and makes the film around that process. Now he wants you to experience that vision along with him.

That doesn’t mean that I?have to go experience it in 3D but it is what that director was envisioning when he created it.

Plus, it makes the overall box office report look that much meatier when you include the inflated prices of going to a 3D movie.

For me, though, I really don’t care if a movie is in 3D?or not, though I prefer to go to a 2D instead with a quality digital transfer. Even that isn’t a requirement.

I tend to just look for a movie that I?am going to enjoy and if it has some special digital or 3D?transfer, I will consider that a bonus. Though not one I seek out.

In the end, if you like the 3D?element of films today, you aren’t the only one. Millions upon millions are paying that little extra every year for that experience as well.

For me, give me some popcorn and a film in 2D and I will still be just as happy about my experience.
