  • So as I was in full on geek-mode during Planet Comicon a few weeks ago, a question popped into my head.

If I could be one superhero, who would it be?

Most people that know me think they know that answer before I would even give it.

That answer they would give would be Batman.

I mean, I have a son that tramples around the house in his Batman PJs telling the world that he is both Batman AND Bruce Wayne.

Given that kind of evidence, I could see how they would come to that realization.

Unfortunately, guessing Batman would be incorrect.

Oh, don’t get me wrong, I love Batman and he is my favorite comic book character of all-time, bar none, but he is a little lacking on the “super powers” side of the scale.

I mean he can’t fly, he is vulnerable to just about everything, and he is just a normal guy underneath that dark, albeit, cool disguise.

Although he is super-intelligent and has about a  ga-zillion dollars, so he has that going for him. So picking him as an alternative character would be in the cards.

No, the superhero I would want to be would be Superman.

    WHAT?!?!

Literally, I can feel the ground shake as dozens of my Superman loving friends faint from this revelation.

Actually I am pretty shocked myself.

Let’s look at the tale-of-the-tape and you will understand my choice.

Superman has the ability to fly so I?wouldn’t have to worry about gas prices going up or down.

Superman is invulnerable and cannot be harmed by anything except for kryptonite or by being under the effects of kryptonite poisoning.

He has the ability to shoot a heat vision out of his eyes. Plus, he can also see through anything that is not laced with lead. I wouldn’t have to worry about losing my eyesight, I could even give myself Lasik eye surgery.

Throw in superstrength, super speed, superhuman breath, super hearing, and total recall of everything he hears or sees and Superman has it all going for him.

That being said, Batman has all these cool gadgets, but Superman doesn’t need them.

Also, we have seen Batman beat Superman time and time again in the comics. This is a subject I bring up with my Superman buddies whenever we compare favorite heroes.

In the real world though, Batman could never beat Superman. He wouldn’t stand a chance, I admit that but just this one time.

Finally, the one part about Superman that beats Batman in my book, he is an award-winning newspaper journalist.

Since I also am a writer for a newspaper myself, this would come in handy come time for negotiations over salary.

Of course, as Batman, I?wouldn’t EVER have to worry about salary...hmmmm. Soooo, is it too late to change my answer?
