- The Greater Maryville Chamber of Commerce's Downtown Sumer Concert Series got underway Thursday evening with a performance by "kid rocker" Dino O'Dell. Despite temperatures near the 100-degree mark, about 50 parents, grandparents and, of course, children, gathered on the square for an upbeat show of sing-along and action songs. Other series acts are still to be announced. Dates for the remaining two shows, both of will which start at 6:30 p.m. on the square, are Thursday, July 26, and Thursday, Aug. 16. All performances are free and open to the public. Local sponsors include 97.1 the 'Vill, St. Francis Hospital & Health Services, Nodaway Valley Bank, Hy-Vee, KCP&L, KFC, Kawasaki Motors and SuddenLink.
